Association for Asian Studies Conference in Washington DC
Together with the Indonesia & Timor Leste Studies Committee, AIFIS will be hosting a reception at this year's Association for Asian Studies Conference in Washington DC. The reception is schedule for 7:30-9:30 on Friday March 23rd, in the Virginia Suite A in the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington DC.
Gamelan Dharma Swara: Spring Revolution
Gamelan Dharma Swara is part of the Spring Revolution Festival, National Sawdust’s annual two week festival celebrating the musical revolution created by Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring. Held from March 1st through March 11th, this year Spring Revolution celebrates the voice of multicultural women, with every night featuring female curators, artists and composers because the female perspective is the human perspective and the human perspective should be inclusive.
The presentation includes the world premiere of ‘No Ma Den’ by groundbreaking composer I Dewa Ketut Alit, and the New York premiere of ‘Sari Ing Kerta’ by I Gusti Nyoman Darta, Gamelan Dharma Swara’s Artist-in-Residence.
Call for Papers: New York Conference on Asian Studies (Innovation and Invention)

Membership in NYCAS is open to all persons interested in Asian Studies. While the organization draws its membership primarily from New York State, participants in the annual conference come from throughout the United States and indeed the world. Each person registering for the annual meeting pays a membership fee to NYCAS, which is part of the registration fee, and then is considered a NYCAS member eligible to participate in the annual meeting and to vote in all NYCAS elections for that year. The membership is invited to nominate members of the Executive Board, who are elected in rotation at the annual meetings.
This year’s conference is hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology and the theme is “innovation and invention.” The conference will be held September 21-22. Scholars, both affiliated with an institution as well as independent scholars, are invited to submit proposals for a panel or an individual paper.

The Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC) is a university-wide multidisciplinary centre at the University of Sydney that promotes scholarly engagement with Southeast Asia. Our postdoctoral positions are available to postdoctoral researchers working on topics related to our five research clusters—economic and social development, environment and resources, health, heritage and the arts, state and society—in any Southeast Asian country (or countries) and in any discipline. This year, we are offering a postdoctoral position in the area of economic and social development.
Appointees, who may sit within the centre or in a relevant host department, are required to spend up to 20% of their time on centre duties, allocated at the discretion of the SSEAC director. The remaining 80% of their time is available for their own research projects, with research targets set in consultation with the SSEAC director. Candidates who have held their PhDs for no more than five (5) years are eligible to apply. Appointments are for one year, with a possible extension for a second year for high-performing appointees.
In this position, you will:
* conduct your individual research according to an agreed timeline and scope
* prepare and submit high-quality publications according to an agreed timeline
* design, plan, schedule and prepare for implementation of future research projects
* contribute to the life of SSEAC through a range of SSEAC-related duties
About you
The successful candidate will have:
* an interest in social and/or economic development in Southeast Asia
* a PhD in a relevant field of study
* experience conducting original research related to Southeast Asia
* experience publishing in high-quality journals
* the ability to actively contribute to the life of SSEAC
